Cultivating a Biblical Vision for Agriculture

Do you desire to glorify God through the way you farm? Are you tired of reading books on farming and food production that ignore God as Creator? Have you ever wondered what agriculture would look like if it was based on the Bible instead of on evolution, Mother Nature, or the latest manipulations of life by science?

In Born Again Dirt, Noah Sanders encourages Christian farmers to evaluate their farming methods in light of Scripture. This book looks at various Biblical principles related to agriculture and provides examples of practical application. Topics covered include:

-Designing farms as beautiful, fruitful homes.
-Honoring God’s design in farm production
-Growing crops that honor the Lord
-Marketing as ministry
-The idolatry of modern agriculture
-Advantages of the farming lifestyle
-Starting a farm and making a living.

Without claiming to have all the answers, Born Again Dirt seeks to inspire you to develop a vision for God-glorifying agriculture . This book is a must read for any Christian who is a full time farmer, backyard gardener, or for anyone who desires a more Biblical view of agriculture.

  1. Paul R ,brother works at Answers in Genesis says:

Hello,Brother in Christ!!! Have you heard of an elderly man in Switzerland who took land on a mountain full of pine trees(acidic ground ) and by observation and experimentation has turned a part of what he manages into productive and fruitful, the plants which attract certain insects take care of the other plants (permaculture) What is your take on this?

Greetings! I have heard of Sepp Holzer and permaculture. In my opinion they are excellent examples of how much wisdom and resources God has made available to us in Creation. Few permaculturists are Christians, yet they acknowledge the wisdom of Creation, although failing to acknowledge the Creator. Because they start with the presupposition that Creation is best managed by using the wisdom of the design already there they have been very successful practically speaking. Imagine if Christians, who actually know the Creator, started looking to the wisdom he has made known! Christians would then be the most successful farmers in the world! At least according to God’s definition of success.

By the way, we visited the Creation Museum a couple of weeks ago for the third time and really appreciate the ministry of AIG.

      In Christ,

    Dear Noah,
I’ve read your book, it was great and have it now in the hands of young men at my church, Crist The Word Church, a PCA church outside of Toledo, Ohio.
I’m a pharmacist by trade but someday may change the Ph for an F. I’m reading a book, titled: Tree of Hate: Propaganda and Prejudices Affecting the United States Relationship with the Hispanic World, 1971 by Philip Wayne Powell, published by University of New Mexico Press.
In it he lists a book, written 1513, by Gabriel Alonso de Herrera (ca. 1470-1540), titled: Obra de Agricultura, which he states ” is as valuable today as a sustainable farming treatise as it was when it was first published in 1513.” Just wondering if you have ever heard of the work from back in “antiquity” ? from Introduction, top of page xv.

  3. Thank God for you and your book. You put into words what I’ve been feeling for a long time. I will reference it often as I learn and grow from my small rented community garden plot to some land where I can teach others how to grow some of their own food –and honor God while doing it. Bless you and yours d. heximer

  4. In Isaiah 26 God says that He teaches the farmer how to farm. Therefore, Christians should be the ones with the answers, and the best methods on how to farm. However, today many Christian farmers do not have the answers and are not using the best methods because they are not going to God to learn how to farm but rather have gone to non-Christians. The secular corporate business world and the state universities have dismissed God from the farming picture. While the methods of the secular mindset are appearing to work as farm production has steadily increased, in reality they are not as successful as they appear because farm profits have not even been keeping up with inflation. Many farm families have off farm jobs to make enough money to farm. That kind of farming is not profitable nor is it sustainable. It is not successful.

I am thankful to have found your book. I am researching for a master’s thesis on urban and regional planning and food policy issues. Can’t tell you how sick I am of the ungodly material, in abundance, out there. Although your book and the books I have order from Joel Salatin are not scholarly they are much better in principle and aligned with Christ. Thank you!

  6. God bless you
It is an honor for me, that God gives me the opportunity to write. His work and achievements as an organization are admirable.
Greetings from Cuba, I am chaplain and evangelist … but do not want to talk about me or the Cuban context that if you do not know, just always go to google because there is a lot about Cuba on the web.
My dear brothers, Cuban workers, no matter if you’re a doctor or engineer, his basic monthly salary is $ 15, it can reach 20 to 30 dollars and a pair of shoe costs 20 to 50 dollars … I start my letter with this comparison so that you can understand why there is so much alcoholism, prostitution, depression and poor people in Cuba.
But today the Cuban government has opened the doors to anyone who wants to work them land, they give no cost for up to 10 years usufruct, and can request up to 5 horses, Cuba is having more than 100,000 horses in idle land.
Would be great to do, because it is the best option, but we are faced with several issues, first in Cuba is better to sow the land devoted to being a doctor, he earns more money, but a doctor did not study for that … I for example want do but I have no idea where to start, I have 6 acres and need help, experience.
There are many things we can conversarla but then if you are interested.
I wish I could do not one, but several farms across the country with several siblings, financial remuneration purposes of my family, for the ministry and in the same farms create jobs in small mini industries and social programs. I explain the latter, I am chaplain working with prisoners, the elderly, addicts, street youth, loose women, so an agriculture program may be a good idea to get them out of their means and their lives by involving them in the production within rehabilitation program, creating a source of employment and also distracting.
There are many things I want to tell you, but I will not be burdensome.
I write as one Macedonian who appeared to Paul asking: Cuba and help us pass
Also would be great to organize farmers into a national ministry similar to yours.

. Loved if what I write does not fit into your vision or work program, if it is possible to include Cuba in his vision, perhaps you know who advise us, or any of its members are interested in particular … for Please do not hesitate to comment on our request to someone who is willing and able to help us. I think a holiday trip to Cuba to help missionaries might be a good idea for many farmers Christians and even a program with youth from these families.
Now wait patiently God allow me to receive your response.
